Intended Users:

It is primarily intended for students of either Spanish or English from ab initio to advanced learners for use with Computer Assisted Language Learning packages and on-line research. It is also very useful for students of translation.

Ease of Use:

Set-up, search and retrieval were all quick and easy. CompLex keeps track of your searches and you can access previous work in subsequent sessions. Cross-referencing between entries and books is useful and easy. Text can be copied and stored or transferred to Word for Windows. While working in Word for Windows you can access and locate a word in the dictionary. Certain texts can be printed

Screen Layout:

Very good display. The Main Window contains: Menu Bar, Bookshelf, Tool Bar and Entry Area. All of these sections are similar to Word for Windows, which makes it familiar for users, accessible by either mouse or key commands. The screen can be transfigured to show all windows accessed in a given session and can be minimised or maximised.

Pedagogical Content:

The entries for each word within the main part of the dictionary are very complete. The variations of spelling and formation of the word are first presented in brackets, there are then several examples of the word meaning and collocations of the word are also given as examples. From a learner’s point of view, this approach is very beneficial as it provides a context within which it is easier to understand the word. It is also helpful for the student to learn other possible meanings for the word.
