Director

Roel Vismans

Roel Vismans, the C&IT Centre Director, is also the Director of the Language Institute at the University of Hull. He started his academic career in Dutch Studies at Hull. He is currently the President of the Association of Low Countries Studies in Great Britain and Ireland (ALCS) and the Treasurer of the Internationale Vereniging voor Neerlandstiek (IVN; International Association for Dutch Studies).

Learning Technology Adviser

Janet Bartle

Janet joined the C&IT Centre team in May 2000 from the University of Hull School of Nursing, where she was responsible for implementing a videoconferencing system for distance learning. Her background is in languages and the application of new technologies in language learning and teaching. She is a graduate of the University of Hull's MA in Applied Language and New Technologies.

Centre Manager (retired)

June Thompson

June Thompson was appointed Information Officer for the CTI Centre for Modern Languages when it was established in 1989, and became Centre Manager in 1992, which post she held until her retirement in August 2002. She also managed the TELL Consortium from 1993 to 1998.

June is co-editor of the ReCALL Journal, Secretary of EUROCALL, and a member of the WorldCALL steering group.

Web Developer/Technical Coordinator

Fred Riley

Fred Riley joined CTICML and TELL as a Software Development Adviser in January 1995, previously having worked for the Hull University-based Information Technology Training Initiative (ITTI) project "Multimedia-based IT Training in the Humanities". Although he speaks Italian well, and French not so well, his background is in Computing and he is responsible for technical aspects of the Centre's work, in particular development and maintenance of the Centre's Internet servers and online databases.

EUROCALL Membership Secretary

Julie Venner

Julie joined CTICML in January 1999 as Assistant Information Officer, and now works for EUROCALL as Membership Secretary, although she still carries out some work for the Centre. Her training and experience is in library and information work. She has also been a language assistant abroad and taught ESOL locally. She speaks Swedish and manages a little Finnish, Spanish, and French.

Julie is Membership Secretary of EUROCALL.
