  • Istituto linguistico Mediterraneo. An Italian language school in Tuscany (Pisa and Viareggio), with a range of courses aimed at different target groups, including intensive 'crash courses' in the language.   • Telecollaboration. Resources for foreign language teachers using internet communication tools for teaching and intercultural exchanges.
  • Moodle. An Open Source VLE project, with strong language support (available in 34 languages) and based on social constructionist pedagogy. One to watch as a strong competitor to proprietary commercial VLEs.
  • Danish lessons online. A 10-day course in beginners Danish for English speakers, including audio clips, grammar, a pronunciation guide, common phrases, and useful links for learners of Danish. The audio clips are implemented in Flash, so a Flash player is required.
  • Speech accent archive. A large database of the accentuated speech of native and non-native English speakers from a wide range of origins, reading the same English paragraph, with phonetic transcription.
  • Teachmaster. Free software for compiling and learning vocabularies. Language files can be downloaded to provide the interface in languages other than Germand or English - at the time of writing, French, Italian and Portuguese were available.
  • O Emigrante/Mundo Português. An online magazine for Portuguese emigrants worldwide.
  • Biografías y Vidas. A large, searchable collection of biographies of famous people of all nationalities. Site text in Spanish.
  • RealFrench.net. A large collection of language resources for English-speaking learners of French at all levels, including grammars, interactive exercises, a verb conjugator, 'web quest' worksheets for students, links to relevant sites, print resources for teachers, and more. Hosted at the Manchester Metropolitan University. Recommended.
  • Learning Italian in Italy. A website to promote a book by two UK doctors who learnt Italian from scratch in Italy, and which is essentially a consumer guide to language schools and universities in Italy by region, together with practical tips for foreign learners.
  • Turas Teanga. An Irish language course from Ireland's national broadcaster Radio Telefis Éireann. There's a short online beginner's course comprising six lessons with video clips (Real format) and simple exercises, based on the book and DVD course of the same name. There's also a useful list of links resources for learners of Irish.
  • Argomenti i Fakti Kazakhstan. Online version of a Kazakhstan weekly newspaper. Site text in Russian.
  • Words and Tools. Software for authoring web-based interactive tests and exercises for language learners of English and Spanish, primarily vocabulary and grammar exercises. The website has a number of functioning demos.
  • Learn Spanish in Spain. A guide to learning Spanish at language schools in Spain, with advice on choosing schools, accommodation, and other practicalities, based on the experiences of the site author, Tommy Tokstad.
