Chinese, Japanese and Vietnamese. Language learning site featuring sections such as Days of the Week, Glossary of Bird names, Harry Potter in Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese. Also includes a description of the Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese writing systems and the Transliteration of Chinese, Japanese, and Vietnamese.
Digital Dictionaries of South Asia. Project to create and disseminate electronic dictionaries for each of the twenty-six modern literary languages of South Asia. At least one multilingual dictionary is being selected for each South Asian language; in the case of more frequently taught languages, a monolingual dictionary is also chosen. The dictionaries are available by means of standard file transfer protocol, or by compact disc. There is no charge for access via the Internet and the compact discs are available for the cost of duplication and mailing.
East Asian Studies Internet Resources. A large collection of links, sorted by type and language, for students of East Asian cultures and languages, focussing in particular on China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.
SEAsite. The site describes itself as "Interactive learning resources for SE Asian languages and cultures", and behind the modest home page lies a wealth of learning resources, including language lessons, dictionaries, grammars, and information on countries and cultures. The site is divided into autonomous sections on Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines (Tagalog), Vietnam, Myanmar (Burmese), and Laos. The site is maintained by the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Illinois, USA. Recommended.
BBC Mandarin Online. News stories and RealAudio broadcasts in Mandarin from the BBC World Service. Also available in Cantonese.
Centre for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. The CTCFL site, hosted at the University of Oxford, has a large number of annotated and categorised resources for learners of Chinese at all levels. They've recently developed an online elementary Chinese course, for which you need to apply for a login name and password.

Chinese Software Web Site. The main feature of this website is the downloadable KuaiXue software for learning Chinese.
China Pages. Official news and information about the PRC, mostly in English, but with some pages in Chinese. However, there's no indication on the site as to which font to use to read the Chinese.
The Chinese Biographical Database. A moderated online database useful for research and as an educational tool.
Chinese Character Dictionary. Interactive English/Pinyin/Cantonese dictionary.
The Chinese Outpost. Subtitled "Demystifying Chinese Since 1998" this site contains a wealth of resources on spoken and written Chinese, including a tutorial in Mandarin.
Learning Chinese Online. Links to online material or the learner of Chinese, including text and audio lessons and online dictionaries.
Multi-media Project for the Teaching and Learning of Chinese at the University of Hong Kong. This project is developing CAL software for learning Chinese, and a shareware version is available for download from the site.
Ocrat Chinese Pages. Learn to draw Chinese characters by watching animated GIFs, and study intermediate-level Mandarin Chinese by listening to VOA broadcasts.
Online Chinese Tools. Resources to assist learners and users of Chinese, including interactive Chinese character flashcards (uses Java), a character dictionary, a module to add pinyin to files, and encoding converters.
The People's Daily of China. Online version of the official Chinese daily paper. Site text in Chinese. There are also editions of the paper in English (US mirror), French, Spanish, Russian, and Arabic.
Study Mandarin using VOA. Intermediate-level Mandarin Chinese lessons using Voice of America sound files (RealAudio format) and Chinese transcripts.

JP Net: Japanese Language and Culture Network. A resource for Japanese language teachers and learners worldwide, including a useful section on displaying Japanese text in web browsers. Text in English.

KoreanTutor.com. Online Korean language learning ranging from basic principles of the Korean alphabet (Hangeul) and sentence patterns to high-level dialogues. All educational content has been provided, and is continually added to, by Seoul National University's Korean Language Education Research Institute. Also offers additional fun and interesting methods to learn Korean, such as daily tips on Korean, Korean pop songs and Theatre. In English, Japanese (and soon in Chinese).
